Amazon Cell Phone Rebate August 7, 2008

I recently purchased a cell phone (with AT&T service) from Amazon.  Amazon had a special promotion offering a $125 rebate on the price of the cell phone, which was a huge driver of my purchase decision.

I received the phone promptly (next day free service) and was able to activate and use the phone immediately.  This was consistent with my experiences with Amazon in general (their service has been really good).  I submitted the rebate form with the required paperwork, but 2 months later, I had no acknowledgement of the submission nor a rebate check.  When I contacted customer service, they told me that they had no record for having received the rebate form.  The customer service representative wasn’t particularly polite or courteous and all but accused me of not having sent in the rebate form – a very negative customer experience for me – she told me that there’s nothing she could do.

After a day or two of steaming about this, I wrote a letter to Amazon Customer Service detailing my situation.  I was pleasantly surprised to get a prompt, polite and positive response from them.  They immediately started processing my rebate and two weeks later, I received the rebate check. 

My faith in Amazon has been restored.
